I'm still practicing every day (and flossing too!) thanks to that calendar trick. Mostly Xrd and +R lately. I have a few updates, and will probably make these more sporadic in the future, daily is too much imo
-I'm getting better at sidewinder loops. I'm starting to learn how to adjust mid combo to get the clean hit and change my followups from there
-I've also started trying out sidewinder loops from higher damage starters, like a dustloop style setup in the corner to add to my strike throw game
-I have an exhibition match set up for later this month I need to prepare for. It's against a Zappa player too so I'm really glad to get some experience against him, he doesn't show up very often in random matches despite being such a strong character
-In Xrd I've mostly been practicing bad moon knockdowns and getting more familiar with character particularities for h/s disc pickups
-I tried some throw combos but I think they're a little niche for where I am now. I'd be better off getting better at basic midscreen oki than trying to learn a bunch of char-specific stuff. Plus they're harder than standard miscreen disc pickups
-I'm getting better at dash jK pickups off bad moon midscreen, which is very useful since you can actually get a bad moon knock down that does a decent amount of damage when close enough to the corner
-I still need to start learning rejump combos and double S disc combos. I want to maximize my damage against "robbery" characters like Leo, Pot, Sol, and Kum especially
-I'm practicing on P2 side more often, need to keep that up so I don't drop anything when the chips are down. It happens often enough in casuals to be a huge problem for me
-No real updates here, haven't played as much of this as I'd like lately, finding games is hard, at least at the times I log on to look for some
Today I mostly played +R and Vsav. I couldnt get many matches due to Vsav being pretty empty as usual, and having connection issues in +R, so I mostly labbed more CL SW loop stuff. I'm getting better at timing my clean hits and finishing the combo with a bandit revolver, but theres some things I still need to work on, namely:
I also need to start practicing safejump setups more so I dont get thrown out of them all the time
In vsav, I really need to work on defense. That means getting more reliable guard cancels, getting comfy with pushblock, anti airs that arent DP (I tried using MK more today and it worked a lot!) and learning how to just hold shit. Plus knowing when I can punish or OS approaches. On the bright side, I think crLK into midnight pleasure is easier than I thought. I dont need to pause before inputting midnight pleasure, I can piano the buttons into each other, which is pretty easy since the buttons I need to press are very close.
I know I still have a long road ahead of me but I want to keep walking it this year instead of giving up and just playing casuals because practice isn't as fun as hanging out with friends and playing, and reflecting on my mistakes is too cringe.
Oh, I also watched the Xrd exhibitions TXT is doing, there were some amazing matches, joy vs Eschatoast was especially fun (though I'm sad Akai wasn't feeling well enough to play. I hope they can get another chance before FF). I also need to go over the replay of Sylvia and Raye's match so I can see what I can learn about the Sin matchup and follow what she does for air to air and anti air conversions, it's something I still struggle with. you can catch the vod (and even more from TXT/NKO) here once it get's posted. I'll try and replace this with a real link once it's up. https://www.youtube.com/@oxyacetylene_
Today I skipped out on playing Xrd and just did Vsav and +R. Training only two games a day might be something I just stick with from now on to keep myself focused. Things are pretty much going as they were. Zero Demons are coming along well, I can already see my consistency improving on P1 side. P2 is still awful, not really sure why since I don't have any trouble with DP motions.
In +R I practiced some SW lops for a bit but mostly played in the weekly lobby CyanPlaza hosts. I won a single game against a Dizzy player who switched to Ky as a handicap. Everyone else beat me and most of the games were very one-sided. It's been a tough group to play in every time I show up. I didn't even land a single CL SW combo, though I was able to get a few started and started using wild throw more, so that's one improvement. Later tonight or tomorrow I'll have to look through the replays and see what I can learn from them while watching other peoples matches for comparison or asking the experienced Sol players I know for adivice.
No other updates, wanted to keep this one short after the word vomit i posted yesterday.
